Green Day was born in 1989 in Oakland, California. They are a punk rock, pop punk and alternative rock band. Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004) are their most famous albums.
Billie Joe Armstrong was born in Oakland in 1972. He's the leader, the guitarist and the singer of the band, and he usually writes the songs.
Mike Dirnt (Michael Ryan Pritchard) was born in Oakland in 1972. He's the bass guitarist and the additional singer of the band.
Tré Cool (Frank Edwin Wright III) was born in Frankfurt in 1972. He replaced Al Sobrante as drummer in 1991.
The History
In 1982, Billie Joe met Mike Dirnt in the school dinning room, and they began friends. They liked heavy metal, and they spent all their Friday afternoon listening and playing heavy metal.
In 1984, Tré Cool taught Al Sobrante (John Kiffmeyer) to play the drum.
In 1987, Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt created Sweet Children, and their played in two or three concerts. In 1989 they changed the name of the band for Green Day, and Al Sobrante was the drummer. When Mike finished and Billie Joe left the school, the band began a tour around USA and Canada. The band signed for Lookout! Records in 1989. In 1990, Al Sobrante left the band to go to the university, and Tré Cool (the drummer of The Lookouts) replaced him.
In 1992 and 1993, the band went on a tour of Europe.
The second album of the band, Kerplunk has sold 55.000 CD and the band signed for Reprise Records, and they did their first famous album: Dookie, in 1994. The band had a chaotic tour of USA, and they cancelled the Europe tour.
In 1997, the band created Nimrod. This album wasn't more popular, but the song «Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)» began famous, and the band won a double platinium. The band had a long pause, and in 2004 created American Idiot, their most famous album, and in 2005 they won a Grammy for the best rock album.
In 2009, they created a new album, 21st Century Breakdown, another famous album.
